Ceramics workshop: Sgraffito – plate and bowl

I invite you to a unique, 3-hour ceramics workshop, where you will discover one of the most beautiful pottery decorating techniques – sgraffito.

During the workshop, you will hand-make a large plate and a bowl, and then decorate them with original designs, learning step-by-step the entire process of creating decorations using the sgraffito method.

What is sgraffito?

Sgraffito is a ceramic decorating technique that involves scratching designs into a layer of colored slip applied to clay. This reveals the natural color of the clay beneath the colored surface, creating striking contrasts, subtle lines, and unique ornaments. Each piece made with this method is one of a kind.

What will we do?

During the workshop, you will:

  • form a large plate and a bowl from clay,
  • learn the basics of surface preparation for decoration,
  • paint your pieces with pigments,
  • apply colored slips,
  • learn to scratch designs using the sgraffito technique,
  • create your own unique decorations inspired by nature, ornament, or your own imagination.

The workshop is suitable for both beginners and those who have already had contact with ceramics and want to explore new decorating possibilities.
