Pottery Wheel Throwing Workshop – beginner's course (3h on the first day + 2h on the next)

Pottery Wheel Throwing Workshop

We invite you to a unique pottery workshop where you will learn the basics of pottery wheel throwing and create your first ceramic vessels independently. 🤍

During the three-hour session, you will learn how to prepare clay for work, center it on the wheel, and form small vessels — for example, bowls, mugs, or small dishes. You don't need any experience — we will show you step by step how to work with clay and enjoy throwing.

When your pieces have dried sufficiently, we will meet on the second day to give them their final shape. You will learn what trimming is, how to properly finish the bases of the vessels and create feet, so that your pieces are prepared for safe glazing.

The workshop price includes:

  • instructor's supervision and guidance,

  • clay,

  • all necessary tools,

  • bisque firing.

And if after the workshop you feel like giving your works color and character, you can also sign up for a glazing workshop and glaze your vessels in our studio.

This is a great opportunity to slow down for a moment, get your hands dirty with clay, and create something with your own hands.
We warmly invite you! 🫶

These workshops always bring back memories of my uncle, Stanisław Jeż, who was a master potter and came from the "potters' corner" in Kąty Denkowskie near Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski (I leave this note in his memory).

In my opinion, pottery wheel throwing is a bit like riding a bicycle: it's difficult at first, but the subsequent satisfaction with your achievements is immense.

Pottery Wheel Throwing Course – beginner's course

Pottery wheel throwing is one of the fundamental skills in ceramics. Learning pottery wheel throwing allows artists and artisans to create unique objects, from bowls to vases. Here are the basic concepts related to pottery wheel throwing:

  1. Potter's wheel: A special device for throwing clay, which rotates using a pedal or an electric motor.
  2. Throwing technique on the wheel: The process of forming clay on the wheel by gently kneading and shaping with hands or tools.
  3. Throwing workshops: Sessions where instructors teach throwing techniques on the wheel, helping participants develop their skills.
  4. Pottery wheel throwing workshops: Special practical classes that allow beginners and advanced artists to perfect their skills.

Wheel throwing is not only a creative process but also a meditative and therapeutic one. It allows you to connect with clay, discover its possibilities, and create unique works of art. Benefits of learning to throw

A pottery wheel throwing course is a process that brings many benefits, both in terms of developing manual skills and relaxation and creative satisfaction. Through the practice of throwing, an individual develops an understanding of working with various materials, mainly clay. Here are the main advantages of learning to throw:

  • Development of manual skills: Throwing requires precision, patience, and motor coordination. Regular practice allows for the improvement of manual dexterity, enhancing the agility of hands and fingers.
  • Understanding how to work with clay: Throwing is the art of forming clay into beautiful and functional objects. By learning this technique, an individual gains knowledge about the properties of clay, its processing, and the possibilities of creating diverse shapes.
  • Relaxation: The throwing process can be incredibly relaxing and therapeutic. Focusing on shaping clay allows one to detach from daily worries and stresses, entering a state of flow — complete focus and engagement.
  • Creative satisfaction: Creating one's own unique works through throwing provides immense artistic satisfaction. The ability to express oneself through ceramic art brings not only joy but also a sense of fulfillment.

As a result, a throwing course not only develops manual skills and creativity but also provides an excellent form of relaxation and escape from everyday life. Through working with clay, one can discover new passions and find inner peace by creating beautiful and functional ceramic objects.
